Katrina

Last Year, Our country was Devastated by Katrina. Many of us only felt the impact on our wallets. But We had a unique opportunity to watch the devastation through the livejournal of a group of techies in New Orleans.

You can see some of my reactions to the mess in this post or this post or this post or this post or this post.

This Article reminds us that the devastation is still pretty great. The Interdictor has reported occasionally that things are still bad and it will be years before things are back to normal (if they ever do get there).

The article specifically refers to the unclaimed bodies. Statistically it is not a ton, but 49 bodies are still unclaimed and are being stored in two seperate locations.

Very Sad....

Taking Donations

I'll set the scene: Lunch with My dad and My Brother, Beautiful orange car goes by... I point, and say Hey, that's the challenger concept.

Two minutes later, the car is going the opposite direction, and stops.... directly across the street from us.

So we definetly had to go look, they apparently had some other cars there, but this was definetly what i was concentrating on :-),

so let me know if you want to contribute, i have untill the end of next year to come up with the cash :-D

``near zero emissions of regulated pollutants and greenhouse gases."

The Boston Globe Reports: Ford to sell buses that will run on hydrogen

I always like to keep an eye on what Ford is doing, apparently they are working on a 6.8 liter v10 engine for use in shuttle buses. They are currently investing $1.84 Billion into the U.K over the next six years to improve fuel efficiency.

hey ford what about U.S?

New site NAVBAR

on the top of the site. I've added a horizontal NAVBAR to add some dimension to the website. It's still in the works. The Links page is up and working. If you would like to get a link on my Links page and let me know and we can exchange --- peter@peterwebber.com

Old article

This is an old article.... but i do love hearing things like :

Mac OS X is easy pickings for bug finders. That said, it doesn't have the market share to really interest most serious bug finders," added gwerdna.

anywho, essentially this guy hacked a mac in under 30 minutes..... Now before you start flaming about the ability to hack various other forms of OS's, my major point in posting this is that most mac enthusiasts claim that OSX is inpenetrable and like to pretend that there are no security exploits for it....

so the real question-- why do you hear about Microsoft's and not Apple's?

a bigger target is always going to have more attackers

Geeks.com

Geeks.com is a website i have been using for a long time. In fact, if you are close to me i've probably recommended purchasing through them before. I decided to poke around and see if this could benefit me in any other way (than their great prices and products) and turns out i meet the requirements to become an affiliate website.

what does this mean? it means-- you buy from them through the links on my websites (www.peterwebber.com and www.peterwebber.net and www.webberfam.com) and I will benefit from that sale (the price to you is exactly the same :-))

so ... check it out :-)

New blog added to bloglines

Okay,

It really is getting mildly rediculous, but since we all have a blog now.... and i really mean we ALL--- even some grandmas are starting to blog. As a result, i have found an endless supply of new and exciting material to chew on.

I think that as Christians, or as anyone trying to work out their own spirituality, this has created a place where we can gain perspectives and learn new things.

It has also increased the need for internal discernment. Not all blogs are going to be dead on in aggreement with scripture.... and as long as you can read everything through a discerning eye, that's okay

I'm going to go ahead and place a blanket disclaimer on all links from here on out, because i no longer have the time or energy to read through ALL back posts every time i find a cool post online.

SO:

All links provided on this website are intended to highlight the specific material indicated in the context of the link. A Link on www.peterwebber.net or www.webberfam.com does not indicate an endorsement or any association, rather it is intended to provide a snippet of information or that i found useful or entertaining. If any sites contain content that is offensive in nature, please inform me immediately via email

One Red Paperclip

If you've been paying attention to various news outlets this year, you've probably heard about Kyle Macdonald's mission. His goal was to start with a red paperclip. He started on July 12,2005 and will be completing his trade with the town of kipling saskatchewan for a House.....

it only took 14 trades, very cool

Vacation Brief

Nicole has a great Rundown of our Vacation. Check it out

EZFlickr

i have developed quite a list of blogs that i read. So big, that without the beauty of a great RSS feed agrigator like Bloglines i feel like i would miss a ton. Recently, i got a link through effective web ministry notes for blake schwediman and his series on driving traffic to your website. It centers around his individual skillset of developing useful pieces of code rather than a new marketing scheme. One of his modules that i find intriguing is EZflickr. EZflickr allows you to specify types of images (by tag) a refresh rate and limit your selection to a username. These images can then be placed on your website. It may be enough for me to finally break down and use Flickr.

For more cool information on developing your own moduels chec out Blake's series on them

Free at Last

I'm sitting in my last actual obligation before my real vacation starts-- We took all day to load up the van, and will take off at around 10:30 after my class ends. I'm currently in Ebus-405 and it is shaping up to be an easiliy handled class.

Dave and Laura got back from cancun and stopped by for a bit today, and we got caught up--- which is always a good time. We are definetly glad to have her join the fam!

hope you all enjoy your week, i will likely not post much, but will get some pictures of the kids up soon!
