WSUS Clients Forced to "restart now" or "restart later"
WSUS is an excellent tool for managing microsoft updates, and to top it off-- it's free.
The common issue when runnning the service is that non-administrators are not allowed to hold off restarting later once the update is finished. This topic is extensively covered all over the 'net. I WAS having a different issue, my users complained that when they clicked 'restart later'-- later was in about 3 minutes.... So i found the of Group Policy that take care of this issue, and i thought i would share with the general public
Note: this situation involved xp Pro clients connected to a 2003 based domain:
1. Run Group Policy Editor
2. Select the policy you wish to append
3. Navigate to Computer configuration -> administrative Templates -> Windows Components -> windows updates
4. Edit the "Re-prompt for restart with scheduled Installations" (change to as long as you like)
